What changes between Free, Family, Business, Site, Corporate and Platform is the legal right to use the software, not what code is present. The binaries are the same.

Licence scope

Private and non-commercial use is free without a time limit. Businesses and other commercial users may evaluate SHAMPOO for up to 30 consecutive days beginning with its first commercial use. Continued commercial use after that evaluation period requires the appropriate commercial licence.

The 30-day commercial evaluation period begins with the first use of SHAMPOO in the course of a business or commercial activity.
Continued commercial or business use after the 30-day evaluation period requires the appropriate commercial licence.
SHAMPOO may display periodic reminders of the commercial evaluation terms. A reminder does not disable the software, remove functionality or determine licence status.
We trust our users. SHAMPOO does not attempt to determine who owns a machine or technically prevent use outside the licence terms; the licence defines the rights granted for use.

A DIFY system contains no secret extra functionality unavailable to DIY users. AKADATA sells expertise, implementation, support and the appropriate commercial rights, not deliberately missing pieces of software.

Legal basis

Licence basis: the SHAMPOO Licence

SHAMPOO is proprietary, closed-source software distributed as binaries. Downloading it transfers no ownership and no source rights.
Every download and every purchase is supplied under the dated, versioned SHAMPOO Licence presented with it, Free and Family included.
Private, personal, household, educational and research use with no business or commercial connection is covered by the Free terms without a time limit.
A business or other commercial user may evaluate SHAMPOO for up to 30 consecutive days beginning with its first commercial use.
Continued use in the course of a business or commercial activity after the 30-day evaluation period requires the appropriate commercial licence.
Family covers a family or household; Business covers one legal entity at its licensed scope; Site covers every entity at one named site; Corporate covers the licensed organisation across its agreed sites and regions; Platform covers third-party commercialisation.
You declare the class of use and meet the obligations applying to that class.
The software does not enforce the licence through activation, feature gates, shutdown, machine counting or phone-home.
No customer needs AKADATA to remain online for their software to keep operating.

The complete product is provided as proprietary binaries, and your licence defines the rights under which you use it. Private and non-commercial Free use has no time limit. Purchased Family, Business, Site, Corporate and Platform rights are perpetual unless terminated under the licence. The Free commercial evaluation right lasts 30 days.

There is no rent, mandatory renewal or subscription for the right of use. That position is part of our software-sovereignty stance: no installation is hostage to AKADATA remaining online.

Licence texts are versioned and dated; the applicable licence version is the version supplied with the relevant download or purchase.

Why there is no DRM

We trust you.

Any determined administrator with root access can eventually defeat local technical restrictions. Building increasingly invasive DRM would punish the people who are behaving properly while doing little to stop those determined to circumvent it.

SHAMPOO therefore contains no activation DRM. We provide the complete product and ask users and organisations to respect the rights granted by their licence.

Professional services

Need help rather than restrictions?

AKADATA LIMITED provides professional installation, integration, configuration, migration, support and maintenance services. A business may download and evaluate SHAMPOO using exactly the same binary as everyone else for up to 30 days. Continued commercial use after that evaluation period requires the appropriate commercial licence. Professional services are available separately.

Licensing questions, answered plainly.

Is the free download missing features?: No. The free download is the complete product, with the same binaries as every paid tier.
Does a paid licence unlock different software?: No. A paid licence grants rights of use. There is nothing to unlock, because nothing is locked.
Does SHAMPOO phone home to check my licence?: No. There is no activation server and no telemetry requirement for licensing.
Will SHAMPOO stop working if AKADATA disappears?: No. Your installation does not depend on us being online: there is no activation, no licence check and no phone-home in the software.
Is a commercial licence a subscription?: No, unless you separately purchase a support or service agreement. The right of use is not a rental.
Can I run replicas?: Yes. Replication and topology are not artificially restricted by the binary.
How long can a business evaluate SHAMPOO for free?: A business may evaluate SHAMPOO commercially for up to 30 days. Continued commercial use after that evaluation period requires the appropriate purchased licence.
Why pay if the software does not technically stop me?: Because the licence grants the legal rights to use the software for that purpose, supports its continued development, and gives an organisation a clean compliance position.
How long does a purchased licence last?: A purchased SHAMPOO licence grants a perpetual right of use under the licence terms. There is no subscription, renewal requirement, expiry date or later licence conversion.
Can AKADATA install and manage it for us?: Yes: that is DIFY. We can build, configure, integrate and maintain the whole platform, and supply the appropriate commercial rights alongside it.
We want to sell a service built on SHAMPOO. Which licence covers that?: The Platform / Service Provider licence: SaaS, hosted platforms, managed services, OEM/embedded offerings and agreed redistribution. It is a one-off perpetual licence agreed directly with AKADATA, so talk to us.
